Functional Skills Level 2 is a qualification tat is regarded as equivalent to a pass in GCSEs. In order to undertake apprenticeships at Level 2 an above a GCSE in Maths and English is required. If you do not have a GCSE in one or both of these subjects, then a pass at Level 2 Functional Skills will allow you to undertake these mid or higher level apprenticeships. This is also required to undertake a Trainee Nursing Associate course.
The government supports individuals to undertake Functional Skills courses to encourage confidence in numeracy and literacy and also support workforce development. This course is available at no cost for the individual. There are a large number of local colleges and organisations that offer Functional Skills and you may want to contact a college convenient for you. The course are often available over a number of weeks and months, daytime and evening classes. It is important to get the course that best fits your needs.
